Personal Productivity Coaching (Step #5)

Two men cut wood all day long. One worked straight through, without stopping to rest. At the end of the day he had a sizable pile of logs.

The other would chop for 50 minutes and then take a ten-minute break. At the end of the day he had a much larger pile.

‘How could you chop more?’ asked the man who’d worked continuously. His friend replied, ‘When I stopped for rest, I also sharpened my ax.’

How do you plan, prioritize & execute your work?

5) Execute

Remember Parkinson's Law: A project will tend to grow in perceived complexity and importance in relation to the amount of time allocated for it. A task will tend to take the amount of time you give it.

So if you give yourself one thing to do during an 8-hour day, it will likely take 8 hours to complete it. Give yourself two things to do in the same period of time, and you will probably finish both.

But give yourself twelve things to do in 8 hours, and you may not get all twelve done, but you may complete many of them.

Apply Parkinson's Law to your work
Shortening your work time, causes you to focus on only the most important tasks. (Have you noticed
your productivity increase just before leave for vacation? It's because we have more motivation - or urgency - to achieve completions within a limited amount of time.)

Apply the Pareto Principle to your work
Focus on the 20% that bring you 80% of the results. Limiting your tasks to the most important 20% will shorten your workday and bring you better results.

With your coach, you can experience immediate results using your new workflow systems, as you will be getting work done during the coaching sessions. And, your execution will be more effective with the new systems and skills that support you in taking consistent and purposeful action.

After completing the hands-on coaching program, you'll know how to easily plan, prioritize and complete actions using your new workflow system.
